Planned Parenthood Health Systems Action Fund announces our endorsements for the November 2, 2010 election.
These candidates have pledged to do more than just support a woman’s right to choose. They have also agreed to support expanding access to information, education and health services to reduce unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS. Once elected, they will continue to stand up for women and families and put commonsense health care needs ahead of ideology and politics.

PPHS Action Fund is proud to announce our endorsed candidates for the June 8 primary election. All of these candidates support access to safe, legal abortion services, as well as prevention measures like access to contraception and medically accurate sex education.
District 80: Representative Jimmy Bales
Representative Bales has a pro-choice voting record; most significantly, he voted against H.3245, the Two Trip Ultrasound bill, in 2009.
District 98: Christine Jackson
Christine is running against Steve Yeomans for the Democratic nomination. The winner will vie for the seat left open by the retirement of Representative Annette Young.
District 121: Representative Kenneth Hodges
Representative Hodges has a pro-choice voting record; mostly recently, he voted against the Two Trip Ultrasound bill and opposing attempts by anti-choice Republicans to remove state health insurance coverage for abortion in cases of rape and incest.
SC House Debates Constitutional Rights at Fertilization
Posted in: SC by admin on February 26, 2010 | No Comments
In early February, the South Carolina House of Representatives held a subcommittee hearing on HB 3526. This bill would have granted constitutional rights to fertilized eggs. Not only would this legislation outlaw abortion, but it would threaten access to certain types of contraception as well. In addition, this great video by National Advocates for Pregnant Women highlights how this legislation threatens the rights of pregnant women who are carrying to term as well.
After almost an hour, the committee tabled the bill without a vote. Debate included a heated exchange between anti-choice Representative Delleney and Steve Lefemine, the director of Columbia Christians for Life. During the video, you’ll see that Rep. Delleney remains committed to passing the other piece of legislation we are closely watching this session: the Two Trip Ultrasound bill (H3245).
