PPHS Action Fund Announces Primary Endorsements in West Virginia

West Virginia will hold primary elections on Tuesday, May 11.  (Click here to learn more about when and where to vote!)

Planned Parenthood Health Systems Action Fund is proud to announce our endorsements for the primary.  All of the candidates listed below support access to safe, legal abortion as well as preventative services such as contraception access, prevention and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, and comprehensive, medically accurate sexuality education. 

District 15: Delegate Jim Morgan
Delegate Morgan recently voted against SB 597, a bill to amend West Virginia’s informed consent law to include medically unnecessary information about ultrasound provision. Learn more about Delegate Morgan and his campaign on his website.

District 28: Delegate Thomas Campbell

District 30: Delegate Barbara Hatfield
In the 2010 session, Delegate Hatfield defended against anti-choice legislation such as SB 597 and also co-sponsored pro-choice legislation such as HB2238, a bill to require hospitals to offer emergency contraception to sexual assault victims, and HB4272, a bill to ensure that insurance companies cover contraception for teens.  Learn more about Delegate Hatfield and her campaign on her website.

District 30: Delegate Bonnie Brown
In the 2010 session, Delegate Brown defended against anti-choice legislation such as SB 597 but also co-sponsored pro-choice legislation such as HB2238, a bill to require hospitals to offer emergency contraception to sexual assault victims, and HB4272, a bill to ensure that insurance companies cover contraception for teens. District 30: Delegate Nancy Guthrie

District 30: Delegate Danny Wells

District 31: Delegate Meshea Poore
Delegate Poore was appointed to her seat in 2009 after Delegate Carrie Webster’s resignation.  In the 2010 session, Delegate Poore defended against anti-choice legislation such as SB 597 but also co-sponsored pro-choice legislation such as HB 4272, a bill to ensure that insurance companies cover contraception for teens. District 36: Delegate Joe Talbott
Delegate Talbott also voted against SB 597 during the 2010 session.

District 44: Stephen Lee Cook
Mr. Cook is a former state senator and a professor at West Virginia University.
